History
The Splendid China Folk Village, formerly the Splendid China Miniature Scenic Area, built in 1989, was developed under the leadership of Ma Zhimin, known as the “Father of Chinese Theme Parks.” The park features 82 representative attractions at a 1:15 scale.

In 1991, the original miniature scenic area was expanded into the Folk Culture Village, featuring 24 village buildings representing 21 ethnic groups at a 1:1 scale, and introducing cultural activities such as ethnic song and dance performances and handicraft workshops.
In 1998, it became the first tourist attraction in China to receive ISO9002 international quality certification.
In 2003, Splendid China and the China Folk Culture Village merged into one, offering a single ticket for both.

Folk Culture Villages – 28 Unique Ethnic Villages
China Folk Culture Village covers 200,000 square meters with life-size replicas of 28 ethnic villages from across China. Visitors discover authentic architecture like the Bouyei stone village, Hani “mushroom houses”, Dong drum towers, and Mongolian yurts, all built to original specifications.

The landscape recreates iconic scenes including Yunnan’s stone forests, Hainan’s coconut groves, and cascading waterfalls. Multiple touring options allow exploration by foot, cart, or boat along picturesque waterways.
Each ethnic village pulsates with daily performances that transport visitors to different eras and traditions. You might be swept into an Ashima tribal wedding as an impromptu “groom” or join the mystical dances of the Wa mountain people. Professional troupes perform breathtaking shows like the Dragon and Phoenix Dance – a spectacular fusion of martial arts, acrobatics and opera that has enthralled audiences for generations.

The New Oriental Costumes extravaganza showcases vibrant ethnic attire through dynamic music and dance, while Legend of the Desert stuns with equestrian stunts reenacting Silk Road adventures.

The park’s working workshops offer authentic hands-on experiences, from trying Tibetan thangka painting, Uyghur embroidery stitches to preparing Dai-style bamboo rice. As evening falls, spectacular shows light up the villages, with dazzling costume parades moving through lantern-lit pathways.
