Nestled in northeast Guangxi, Yangshuo charms travelers with its stunning karst mountains and the scenic Li River. This UNESCO-listed gem blends natural wonders with rich local culture, making it one of China’s top destinations. Despite growing popularity, Yangshuo retains its magic – offering breathtaking landscapes and authentic experiences that captivate visitors worldwide.
Top Attractions in Yangshuo County
Yangshuo offers several must-see attractions, including the breathtaking Li River, peaceful Yulong River, lively West Street, unique Moon Hill, and ancient Big Banyan Tree. Keep in mind that most sites charge an entrance fee – if you plan to visit multiple places, consider purchasing a combo ticket to save money.
Li River
The most scenic section of the Li River (from Yangdi to Xingping) flows through Yangshuo. Famous for its crystal-clear waters and extraordinary limestone peaks, a bamboo raft ride here feels like gliding through a living Chinese painting. Along the journey, you’ll pass iconic sights like the Nine Horses Fresco Hill, Yellow Cloth Shoal reflection, and ancient Xingping Town – each offering perfect photo opportunities of this magical landscape.

Yulong River
The Yulong River, the longest tributary of the Li River in Yangshuo, is often called “Little Li River” for its even more peaceful and picturesque scenery. Drifting on a traditional bamboo raft (punted by hand rather than motorized), you’ll glide past idyllic countryside views, ancient bridges, and charming villages for 1-2 hours. Unlike the Li River bamboo rafting experience, the absence of engine noise lets you fully immerse in the tranquil beauty of this unspoiled landscape.

Moon Hill
Moon Hill gets its name from the natural round hole at its summit resembling a full moon. This moderate hike rewards visitors with lush bamboo forests, clear streams along the winding path, and panoramic views of Yangshuo from the top. On clear days, the iconic moon-shaped arch frames blue skies while mist-shrouded peaks create breathtaking scenery – a photographer’s dream. Visitors can either take a 15-minute walk around the base to view the arch from different angles or climb 800 marble steps (about 1 hour) for a close-up look at this geological wonder.

Big Banyan Tree
Located in Chuanyan Village, the large banyan tree, known as the “Chuanyan Ancient Banyan,” offers a prime spot for rural scenery. Standing 17 meters tall and with a girth of 7.05 meters, its vast canopy covers 1,333 square meters. From a distance, it resembles a giant green umbrella, while up close, its tangled roots and lush leaves shade the sky. Legend has it that it was planted during the Jin Dynasty, making it over 1,400 years old.

West Street
No visit to Yangshuo is complete without exploring West Street, the town’s most famous and historic pedestrian thoroughfare. This charming old street blends Eastern and Western influences, with traditional Chinese architecture standing alongside European-style buildings. Lined with shops and eateries, it’s the perfect place to sample local specialties like Guilin rice noodles and Yangshuo beer fish, or browse for handicrafts and souvenirs.

Xingping Town
Xingping Ancient Town is one of Yangshuo’s best-preserved historical settlements, featuring well-maintained ancient bridges, ferry docks, pavilions, opera stages, temples, village gates, old trees, and traditional architecture clusters. The scenic area boasts picturesque landscapes, including the famous Mural Hill and Yellow Cloth Beach within its boundaries. The town retains an authentic old-world charm with its timeless riverside setting.
